Three months have passed since Drupal Developer Days Athens 2026, and I can now look back at the event with a little more distance—but with the same sense of pride.

What started as an ambitious idea became four days of knowledge-sharing, collaboration and meaningful connections among more than 300 members of the international Drupal community. For the Greek Drupal Community, hosting such an important event was both an honour and an opportunity to demonstrate that Greece can play an active role in the global open-source ecosystem.

However, the real value of Drupal Developer Days Athens should not be measured only by the number of participants, the quality of the sessions or the positive feedback we received. It should be measured by what happens next.

The event created significant momentum for Drupal and open source in Greece. Our responsibility now is to build on it. We need to strengthen cooperation among developers, agencies, public institutions, universities and organisations that believe in open technologies. This effort should extend beyond Greece and support stronger connections throughout Southeastern Europe, a region with considerable talent and potential but still limited representation in the international open-source landscape.

At E-Sepia, we remain committed to supporting community initiatives, contributing to Drupal and helping new people become involved. Community events are essential because they bring people together, encourage knowledge-sharing and preserve the values that make open source unique.

At the same time, I believe we must complement them with more business-oriented initiatives. Drupal needs to be presented not only as a strong developer community and an excellent content management framework, but also as a strategic platform for complex digital projects, public services, enterprise systems and digitally sovereign infrastructure.

We need events and discussions that bring the Drupal community closer to decision-makers, businesses, public authorities and organisations searching for reliable, flexible and sustainable digital solutions. Strengthening Drupal’s position in the market is not separate from strengthening the community. A healthier market creates more projects, more jobs, more investment in skills and ultimately more contributors.

Drupal Developer Days Athens showed what we can achieve when experience, enthusiasm and collaboration come together. It should not be remembered as the conclusion of a successful effort, but as the starting point for a more ambitious chapter for Drupal and open source in Greece and Southeastern Europe.

I hope we can continue this conversation, develop new collaborations and meet many of the people who shared this experience with us at DrupalCon Europe in Rotterdam.
